WMLL's annual Home Run Derby is a fundraising event for both WMLL and the Madison Chapter of the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. The event in 2023 will take place on Saturday September 23rd on the Battista Field starting at 1:30 PM. The expected finish time of the event is 6:00 PM but is dependent on the number of competitors. A special guest from a duck pond to the north will be making a visit for the first hour of the event so don't be late!

Your registration helps us plan! Here is a link to the registration for the event:
Event Registration - Google Forms
For everyone who registers online before noon on Friday 9/22 you will be entered in a drawing for a $50 gift certificate to DICK’s Sporting Goods.
The suggested donation for entry is $10 for all youth divisions, $20 for the adult divisions. Adults can enter multiple divisions for $30. Additional donations will gladly be accepted. Bring cash for registration fees, 50/50 raffle, and concessions (open all day).
VOLUNTEER (DIBS)
Running a HR Derby takes a lot of hands so we need volunteers to help out. We need people to help at the registration table as well as on and off the field support during the derby. For those who still need to meet their mandatory service credits (Dibs program) your sign-up will earn credits toward that program. Here is a link to the Dibs (note: make sure the filters include 9/23 in the date range and you can filter by Category to only see HR Derby)

RULES
Objective: Hit the most “home runs” (= a fair ball hit that clears the specified home run distance in the air) before getting five “outs” (= any swing that does not result in a home run).
Pitching: Pitching in all divisions, except Rookie softball, will be done using a machine. Rookie softball which will hit from a tee.
Legal Bats: Participants in the High School & Adult baseball divisions must use a wood bat. Participants in all other divisions may use any bat legal for play at WMLL in the league for that age group (see below). While it is recommended that all participants provide their own bat, it may be possible to borrow a bat at the derby.
·
Tiebreakers: If there is a tie in any division, all tied batters will compete in a one swing “swingâoff”, until only one batter remains. If there is still a tie after three tiebreaker rounds, the fourth round will be the final round with the winner being the batter who hits the ball the farthest in the air. If a division has no home runs hit, there will be a one round swing off with the winner being the batter who hits the ball the farthest in the air.
