About West Madison Little League Baseball

For Girls' Softball information, click here.

Who is eligible to play baseball?

Any youngster between the ages of 8 and 16 (as of April 30 each year) who lives in the Madison West, Madison Memorial or Middleton-Cross Plains high school attendance areas. The player must satisfy both provisions to be eligible. Under National Little League rules, players can participate in only one little league program at a time.

What is the league structure for baseball?

Players are placed into leagues based upon age; however, for some leagues, parental requests, player skill level, and the number of applicants is considered, as well.

Atlantic League: 8 & 9 year olds (machine pitch league)
Pacific League: 10 year olds
Central League: 11 year olds
Major League: 12 year olds plus several 11 year olds per team
Badger League: 13 and 14 year olds
Senior League: 15 and 16 year olds, as well as 14 year-olds in high school

Where are the games played?

All games are played at the WMLL diamonds. The diamonds are located at 701 Forward Drive, just north of Schroeder Road and adjacent to the Channel 15 TV tower. The property is made available to the league through the generosity of NBC 15.

How can a youngster register to play?

Registration is done by mail. All registration forms (except scholarship requests) MUST be accompanied by fees and mailed to:

WMLL Baseball
P.O. Box 5177
Madison, WI 53705

Everyone who plans to play at WMLL in 2008 must submit a completed registration form. Registration deadline is
March 1, 2008 in order to be guaranteed a roster spot on a team.   Late registrations are NOT guaranteed a spot on a team if leagues are full...these players will be placed on a waiting list in the order the forms were received.

What does it cost to play in West Madison Little League?

The fee for each player is $150, if payment is postmarked by February 9 ($165 if postmarked after Feb 9). All fees must accompany the registration form with your check as your receipt. Scholarships are available for players who are eligible for free or reduced lunch at their school. Details are on the registration form.

Are players "cut" after registration?

No. Once a youngster's registration is accepted by the deadline, there are no "cuts". Everyone gets to play on a team. A skills session for 8, 9, 10, 11, and 12 year-olds is designed to promote parity among the teams by giving coaches an opportunity to see players prior to the league drafts. Player applicants from the same family will be placed on the same team if the individuals are in the same league, unless the parents request that they not be on the same team. No requests will be honored to place friends and/or neighbors on the same team.

When do we play?

League play begins the last weekend of April for all leagues except the Senior League, which begins Memorial Day weekend.  The season concludes by the middle to end of July, depending on the league. Each team plays or practices on weekdays, as well as weekends. Practices begin in April as weather permits.

Who must attend the skills session and when is it?

Location and Times for 2008. The skills session is required for all baseball players at the 8,  9, 10, 11 and 12-year-old age levels. We must confirm ages so please be sure to enter the correct birthdate on the registration form.  NOTE: 8 year–old players and players new to WMLL must bring an official birth certificate to the skills session in order for the individual to be allowed to play this season. The skills session will be held on March 29, 2008, at the   Memorial High School Field House (201 South Gammon Road). Sorry, but there are no confirmations of registration or reminders of the skills sessions so please mark the dates and times on your calendar.  A specific schedule by age group is shown below.
